Joint Student Executive Council
The Joint Student Executive Council (JSEC) is the governing body for The Student Centre. JSEC is responsible for the
strategic planning and policy making for The Student Centre. While not directly responsible for day-to-day operations,
JSEC creates and implements policies, procedures and guidelines that direct the management and staff who are responsible
to JSEC for all the businesses in The Student Centre.
JSEC is made up of eight student members, and one member of management. The four NUSU directors, the four CSRC
directors and the General Manager of the Student Centre are the voting members of JSEC. These nine members work to
create policies and procedures that best benefit the students of Nipissing University and Canadore College, taking into
consideration all provincial, federal and municipal laws applicable to the businesses. JSEC's mandate is to keep pricing for
all operations low while subsidizing as many events as possible within a balanced no profit budget.
Currently, a large potion of JSEC's effort is being directed at the creation of a new Student Centre. The new Student Centre
will include new operations, increased lounge and study space, and space for club activities, social events and student led
initiatives.

The Safe Ride Home Program
The current Student Centre is a social and recreational facility for College and University students, staff, faculty, and alumni.
The Student Centre provides a 716 seat Dance Bar, a Convenience store, Tim Horton's, Food Services, ATM's, Specialty
Entertainment such as comedians and bands, and office service facilities for its members and their guests, with particular
reference to those members on residence (over 1000 beds) who do not have direct access to North Bay community facilities.
It is also intended to provide an environment in which all members can interact both socially and professionally, regardless of
institution, grade or affiliation.
We currently offer students a ride to lower residence on Friday nights; however we have expanded upon this program to
ensure every student who requires a ride home receives one. We believe that this project will be the perfect opportunity to
create an alcohol awareness program that socially responsible sponsoring companies are being affiliated with. Those companies
are;Nipissing University, Canadore College, Pepsi Bottling Group,Nipissing Alumni Association, Canadore Alumni Association,
Molson Brewing Company, Nipissing & Canadore Athletic Departments, Labatts Breweries, Red Bull International,
North Bay Signs & Decals, Nipissing University Students Union, Canadore Student Representative Council, The Student Center,
B.A.C Food Services, The Wall, Pals Convenience & Stockfish Ford.
Nipissing University and Canadore College collectively enrol approximately 6000 full-time students. The above sponsors are
working together with the Student Centre by supporting through there generous sponsor ship a program that will improve the
transportation safety on campus for all of the student population.
